Rabat – A new heatwave is expected across several provinces in Morocco, starting Thursday.

The country’s latest orange-level weather alert expects temperatures ranging between 41 and 46 degrees across several cities.

Temperatures between 41 and 46 degrees Celsius are expected from Thursday through Sunday in the provinces of Kenitra, Taounate, Meknes, Fez, Moulay Yacoub, Khemisset, and Sidi Kacem.

The same weather will affect Sidi Slimane, Khouribga, Fquih Ben Salah, Settat, Youssoufia, Rehamna, El Kelaa Sraghna, Chichaoua, Marrakech, Taroudant, Zagora, Tata, Assa-Zag, Boujdour, Es-Semara, Aosserd, and Oued Eddahab.

Temperatures between 38 and 41 degrees are expected in the provinces of Larache, Sale, Rabat, Skhirat-Temara, Benslimane, Mediouna, El Jadida, Sidi Bennour, Essaouira,  Safi, Ouezzane, Khenifra, Beni Mellal, El Hajeb, Ifrane and Sefrou.

Meanwhile, thunderstorms will produce 15-25 millimeters of rainfall as well as possible hail and strong wind gusts on Thursday from 1 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Earlier today, Morocco’s Ministry of Health called on all citizens and residents to remain vigilant and adopt preventive measures to reduce the health risks associated with the ongoing heatwave.

The statement urged citizens to pay special attention to children, the elderly, pregnant women, and people with chronic illnesses.

“The ministry reiterates its call for everyone to follow preventive guidelines and show solidarity with the most vulnerable members of society in order to reduce the health risks associated with extreme heat and protect the health and safety of all,” it concluded.
