Rabat – A new weather alert forecasts a new heatwave across Morocco, starting Friday, according to the General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM).

The new alert expects temperatures ranging between 42 and 46 degrees Celsius in the provinces of Sidi Slimane, Kelaat Sraghna, Marrakech, and Rehamna.

The same weather will affect Khemisset, Youssoufia, Fquih Ben Salah, Aousserd, Kenitra, Sidi Kacem, Settat, Chichaoua, Oued Ed-Dahab, Boujdour, Assa-Zag, Es-Semara, Tata, Zagora, and Beni Mellal.

Temperatures between 40 and 43 degrees will affect Errachidia, Sidi Bennour, Safi, Nouaceur, Mediouna, Essaouira, Larache, Tinghir, and Taounate.

The same weather will affect Moulay Yacoub, Fez, Berrechid, Agadir Ida-Ou-Tanane, Meknes, El Hajeb, Sefrou, Taroudant, Khouribga, Khenifra, Guelmim, Benslimane, Ouezzane, and Taza.

Temperatures ranging between 33 and 38 degrees are expected in the provinces of Skhirate-Temara, Casablanca, Mohammedia, Rabat, Sale, El Jadida, and Ifrane.

Strong wind gusts of 75 to 85 kilometers per hour are expected to affect the provinces of Tangier-Assilah and Fahs Anjra from 10 a.m. on Friday until 11 p.m. on Saturday.

The Ministry of Health urged citizens on Thursday to pay special attention to vulnerable groups, including children, the elderly, pregnant women, and people with chronic illnesses, during the ongoing heatwave.

The ministry urged citizens to take preventive measures, asking them to avoid direct exposure to the sun. It also advised the public to drink water regularly and in sufficient quantities, especially those who are exposed to the sun due to their work or outdoor physical activities.

People who experience symptoms like high fever, fatigue, dizziness, intense thirst, muscle cramps, confusion, unusual drowsiness, or reduced alertness should seek immediate medical intervention, with the ministry pledging a national response plan to ensure the continuity of healthcare services to tackle the situation.
