Global defense technology company Lockheed Martin has announced the first test flight of F-16 Block 72 destined for the Royal Moroccan Air Force.

The defense company said in a press release today that the first F-16 Block 72 had completed its first test flight, describing the flight as “an important milestone in the flight-test program ahead of the first delivery.”

The company further described the F-16 Block 70/72 as the most advanced version of the F-16 Fighting Falcon, featuring upgraded avionics, advanced sensors, enhanced mission systems, as well as strengthened safety and reliability.

Mike Shoemaker, the vice president and general manager of Lockheed Martin’s Integrated Fighter Group, celebrated the successful test by describing the first flight as a “tangible step forward in Morocco’s F-16 Block 72 program.”

For Shoemaker, this flight also represents an essential milestone in boosting the country’s future air capabilities.

“The F-16 remains an essential component of air defense, today and tomorrow,” he said, expressing pride in the role the aircraft will continue to play in supporting Morocco’s sovereignty and contributing to regional stability in the decades to come.

The company also recalled the longstanding partnership with Morocco, which dates back over 50 years, citing the delivery of the first C-130 Hercules in 1974.

FAR now operates F-16s, C-130s, advanced radar systems, and Black Hawk helicopters, the press release added, recalling that Morocco’s military will also receive HIMARS systems to provide long-range precision strike capabilities.

The company concluded by renewing its commitment to continue strengthening Morocco’s industry and local technical expertise through its partnership with Maintenance Aéro Maroc.

It also cited the repair and maintenance center in Benslimane, which will cover over 8,000 square meters, to provide heavy maintenance and modernization of C-130 Hercules aircraft, with the project planning to expand activities to other platforms, including the F-16.

Lockheed Martin is this year’s Marrakech Air Show Platinum Sponsor.

The annual show will take place from October 7-10, bringing international and local companies to showcase the latest defense technologies

Lockheed Martin will also showcase its latest features to further strengthen defense cooperation with Morocco.

The company said it will also organize an Industry Day later today, marking the participation of Morocco’s Ministry of Industry.
