Rabat – Wydad Athletic Club is reportedly close to reaching an agreement with Tunisian coach Nasreddine Nabi to take charge of the team following a difficult start to the Moroccan Botola Pro season.
According to SNRT News, the Casablanca-based club has reached a preliminary agreement with Nabi, although Wydad has yet to officially announce its separation from Portuguese coach Paulo Sérgio.
The potential coaching change comes just four rounds into the new season, reflecting growing concerns over the team’s performances and results.
Nabi, who previously coached Wydad’s traditional rivals Raja Casablanca during the second half of last season, could soon return to Moroccan football, this time on the opposite side of Casablanca’s historic rivalry.
His previous spell with Raja was marked by controversy, making his potential move to Wydad particularly interesting given the fierce competition between the two clubs.

Wydad struggles in opening four matches
Wydad has struggled to find consistency in the opening weeks of the Botola Pro campaign, recording just one victory in four matches.
The Red Castle secured its only win against Difaa El Jadida, claiming a 2-0 victory. However, the team suffered a disappointing 3-1 home defeat against Wydad Temara.
The Casablanca club also failed to secure victories in its other two matches, playing out a goalless draw against COD Meknes and a 1-1 draw with Amal Tiznit at the Mohammed V Sports Complex.
These results have left Wydad with just five points from a possible 12, falling short of the expectations of supporters who are hoping to see their club compete for domestic titles.
The disappointing performances have also raised questions about the team’s technical direction under Paulo Sérgio, with club officials reportedly considering a change to improve results.
Nabi’s potential return to Moroccan football
If the agreement is finalized, Nabi will face the challenge of restoring Wydad’s competitiveness and helping the club recover from its difficult start to the season.
His familiarity with Moroccan football, particularly following his experience with Raja Casablanca, could help him adapt quickly to his new environment.
However, taking charge of Wydad would also place the Tunisian coach under significant pressure, especially given the club’s ambitions and the expectations of its supporters.
Until now Wydad has not officially confirmed Nabi’s appointment or Paulo Sérgio’s departure.
With rumors circulating about a possible change of manager at the Red Club, the coming days could be decisive for the club and its supporters.
