Rabat – Abdellatif Hammouchi, Head of Morocco’s General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) met with Director of the US Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) Christopher Wray on Tuesday.
Wray, who is currently on a working visit to Morocco, met Hammouchi in Rabat, where the two discussed cooperation on various regional security issues.
The two officials specifically discussed counter-terrorism measures, including ways to surveil and counter attacks in ports of entry, as well as the exchange of information between the two countries on terrorist threats.

The meeting also touched on the expansion of anti-terrorism operations to include the Sahel region, as well as cooperation to counter threats of chemical, biological, and nuclear weapons.
“This new visit signifies the advanced levels that have been reached in bilateral cooperation between Moroccan security authorities and law enforcement agencies in the US,” a communique from the DGSN noted.
The communique added that the cooperation is “based on the depth of the strategic ties between the two countries in several domains,” and that it aims to strengthen regional and international security.

The meeting focused on counter-terrorism and cooperation for regional security.
The meeting is the second between the two figures, after Hammouchi’s visit to the US in June 2022, where he met various security officials in addition to Wray.
Cooperation between the two countries in the field has seen sustained growth in recent years. Hammouchi made a two-day visit to the US last year to boost cooperation.
Morocco has long emphasized cooperation to counter terror threats, especially regional ones such as those in the Sahel.
“The Sahel is home to the world’s fastest-growing and most-deadly terrorist groups,” Morocco’s Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita said in 2022.
