Rabat – Morocco’s state-owned National Highway Company (ADM) expects its annual turnover to reach MAD 3.5 billion ($333 million) at the end of 2023, a 3.7% year-on-year rise.
ADM announced the figure on Monday during a board meeting held to approve the 2023 State Budget, according to a statement reported by Morocco’s Press Agency (MAP).
The statement further details that ADM is set to allocate MAD 522 million ($49.7 million) to infrastructure repair operations with the help of 100% Moroccan companies.
The investment budget also includes MAD 1.7 billion ($161.8) the company is allocating to boost the capacity of the highway linking Rabat and Berrechid. The company is currently working to add additional lanes to the Casablanca-Berrechid highway, the Casablanca bypass, and the construction of the Tit Mellil-Berrechid highway.
This investment will also be directed towards strengthening the security system and digitizing services for highroad users, the statement adds.
In recent years, Morocco has intensified investment operations into the national infrastructure grid connecting Moroccan cities. The strategy relies on the premise that stronger interconnectivity between cities would facilitate economic activities and create jobs.
Over the past 20 years, Morocco constructed 1870 kilometers of modern roads connecting most major cities. And the transport ministry has announced plans to build an additional 3570 expressways and 2210 kilometers of highway by 2030, a project that is set to cost $9.6 billion.
