Rabat – The Israeli Public Broadcasting Corporation (KAN) reported on Tuesday that the allegations of workplace “irregularities” and sexual misconduct that the head of the Israeli Liaison Office in Rabat, David Govrin, is facing date back to a year ago.
“A year ago, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs received a serious testimony against the head of the mission in Morocco, David Govrin,” said KAN, quoting the complaint as saying: “The ambassador is obsessed with women, there are dozens of stories about this.”
Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs sent last week a special team to Morocco to conduct an investigation into the allegations, which include sexual harassment, exploitation of local women, failing to properly report gifts offered to Israel, and mismanaging workplace disputes, The Jerusalem Post reported earlier this week.
Most of the allegations are directed toward Israel’s envoy to Morocco David Govrin, The Jerusalem Post indicated.
Days later, Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs recalled Govrin for investigation. The spokesperson of the ministry announced the decision on Tuesday, according to Israeli news outlets.
KAN quoted the Israeli Foreign Ministry as saying: “The letter is known. There are a series of claims that have come up that have led to the Ministry’s inspection.”
The ministry had already summoned Govrin to Israel as soon as they learned about the recently revealed allegations, KAN indicated, adding that the chief of the Rabat Liaison Office stayed for an entire week before returning to Morocco.

But after the news finally emerged of the sexual misconduct allegations and “amid the storm in the local media, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs asked the head of the mission to return to Israel,” the news outlet added.
The delegation that the ministry sent for investigation was also set to look into the case of an official gift from the Moroccan Royal family to Israel, which was not properly reported to the Israeli Foreign Ministry. The gift is said to have consisted of a gift card the Israeli Liaison Office in Rabat received from the Moroccan Royal Family on the occasion of Israel’s Independence Day.
Morocco World News reached out to the Liaison Office for a statement. They said that they cannot provide further details about the matter given that an investigation is ongoing into the case.
