Temperatures are set to range between 41 and 48 degrees celsius as part of a prolonged heatwave that will last until Sunday, affecting several provinces across Morocco.
A new weather alert from Morocco’s General Directorate of Meteorology (DMN) said a heatwave with temperatures ranging between 44 and 48 degrees will hit the provinces of Agadir Ida Ou Tanane, Inzegane Ait Melloul, Taroudant, Es-Semara, and Assa-Zag from today until Sunday.
Temperatures between 41 and 45 degrees will also concern the provinces of Ouazzane Fez, Moulay Yacoub, Taounate, Meknes, El Hajeb, Taza, Sidi Kacem, Sidi Slimane, Khemisset, Khouribga, and Khenifra.
Beni Mellal, Fquih Ben Salah, Berrechid, Settat, Sidi Bennour, Benslimane, El Kelaa des Sraghna, Youssoufia, Rhamna, Marrakech, Zagora, and Tata will also experience the same weather.
The heatwave will also affect many cities in the south-central and northern Morocco, including Larache, Kenitra, Essaouira, Safi, Chtouka Ait Baha, Tiznit Boujdour, Aousserd, Oued Edheb, Guelmim, Tarfaya, and Laayoune.
In addition to the heatwaves, heavy showers bringing 20 to 30 millimeters of rain along with gusts of wind and thunderstorms will hit the provinces of Taourirt, Guercif, Boulemane, Taza, Sefrou, Ifrane, Youssoufia, Chichaoua, Rhamna, and Midelt.
Morocco has been experiencing a series of heataves since the start of this month. High temperatures contributed to the outbreak of several wildfires that affected many regions — destroying thousands of hectares.
