Rabat – The German company ILF Consulting Engineers is now in charge of managing consulting for the second phase of the feasibility studies for the Nigeria-Morocco Gas Pipeline (NMGP), the second-largest pipeline in the world.
ILF is set to collaborate with its joint venture partner Doris Group to deliver the consulting services for the regional pipeline project.
“Having already been involved in the feasibility study (FEED Phase I) of this world-scale project, awarding Phase II to us is a testament to the confidence of our long-standing customers ONHYM and NNPC in our project management excellence and reliability in executing world-class projects,” Carles Giro, said in a LinkedIn post.
The Nigeria-Morocco Gas Pipeline (NMGP) is a multi-billion mega energy project that is set to cross over 11 African countries linking Nigeria to Morocco and reaching all the way to Europe.
Once operational, the gas pipeline will be the longest offshore pipeline in the world and the second-longest pipeline to ever be built.
The ambitious project requires a total budget of almost $25 billion and would take 25 years to start operations, according to some estimates.
In recent weeks, Morocco’s National Office for Hydrocarbons and Minerals Morocco (ONYHM) said that the pipeline line will run 1,672 kilometers through the North African country.
There have been estimations that under an initial agreement, the NMGP will transport up to 5,400 billion cubic meters of gas to Morocco annually, representing almost half of Morocco’s gas imports in 2017.
The project has already attracted significant funding, including a major investment from the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) to cover Front-End Engineering Design (FEED), the pipeline project’s feasibility study.
