Rabat – After concluding a visit to Washington, the Director of Morocco’s joint police and intelligence departments DGSN-DGST, Abdellatif Hammouchi, traveled to Spain on a state visit on June 16-17.
The visit aimed to strengthen bilateral cooperation between Morocco and Madrid’s security and intelligence services, according to official sources.
During his visit to Madrid, Hammouchi held a series of meetings with senior Spanish security officials on a number of critical security issues for the two countries, added the report.
The meetings equally sought to explore avenues to strengthen and develop bilateral cooperation and discussed the possibility of coordinating security operations between Madrid and Rabat.
Hammouchi’s visit to Spain is part of Morocco’s broader vision to strengthen security partnerships with regional and international players.
In the course of this month alone, Morocco’s DGSN-DGST director went on state visits to the US, Qatar, and Spain.
During his visit to Qatar, Qatari authorities offered the Moroccan official a first look at the security infrastructure and preparations for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Shortly after Hammouchi returned from Qatar, Morocco announced its decision to send thousands of police officers to the Gulf country to help reinforce security ahead of the World Cup.
Morocco’s security cooperation reaches beyond regional cooperation, however. Last month, a number of senior European security officials traveled to the capital Rabat to sign “letters of intent,” expressing their willingness to cooperate with Morocco on security operations.
The visitors featured senior European security officials, including the director-general of the federal police of Germany and the director of the police department in the Netherlands.
