Rabat – Manchester United have started negotiations with Sevilla FC in order to acquire their Moroccan goalkeeper, Yassine Bounou, as well as their Spanish football manager, Julen Lopetegui, according to British media.

Both Bounou and Lopetegui proved themselves in the semifinals of the Europa League 2020 when Sevilla defeated Manchester United by two goals to one on August 16. Since then, the British team has been keeping a close eye on Bounou and Lopetegui.

The Moroccan international player was born in Canada and has been one of the best keepers in La Liga this season, competing with Real Madrid’s Thibaut Courtois for the title of best goalkeeper of the season.

Lopetegui’s contract will not expire until 2024, but after three seasons in Sevilla FC, his performance began to deteriorate, and a large portion of the fans are not happy about it. His most recent results -seven draws in nine League games, plus elimination from the Cup and Europa League – reflect this.

Should negotiations succeed, Yassine Bounou will replace David De Gea, while Julen Lopetegui will replace Manchester United’s current manager, Ralf Rangnick.

Bounou could be a good addition to the Manchester club. His contract with Sevilla currently includes a £25 million (MAD 267 million) release clause. Sevilla is thus eager to renegotiate his new contract and may look to include a release clause of around £63 million (MAD 673 million) this time around.

With the growing attention on Yassine Bounou, Manchester United will need to act quickly if they are serious about signing him. While the Sevilla star has shown great promise, luring him will be difficult given that De Gea is under contract until at least the summer of 2023.

Sevilla FC and Manchester United have played 5 games so far. Sevilla won three of them (one at Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán and two at Old Trafford), while Manchester United won two (one at Old Trafford and one at Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán). Both teams never had a draw in any of their games, according to aiscore.
