Rabat – The Philippines Embassy was inaugurated in Rabat yesterday, March 17, with attending officials describing the new diplomatic office as a symbol of the two countries’ positive relations.

The ceremony was attended by  the Philippines’ Foreign Minister Teodoro Locsin and Fouad Yazough, Director General of Bilateral Relations at Morocco’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

During the ceremony, Locsin said that the official inauguration of the Philippine embassy in Morocco is a “commitment” that testifies to the two countries’ determination to further strengthen bilateral cooperation.

The Philippines’ Foreign Minister noted that the opening of the embassy would allow Morocco and the Philippines to explore cooperation of common interest while focusing on boosting bilateral exchange, including the exchange of expertise and know-how.

Meanwhile, Fouad Yazough stressed that the inauguration is a new start that will strengthen bilateral relations that have already existed for many years.

Yazough expressed Morocco’s readiness to boost bilateral relationship with their country before Locsin and the Ambassador of the Philippines to Morocco Leslie Baja.

On the sidelines of the inauguration ceremony, Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Nasser Bourita co-chaired with his Philippines counterpart the second session of Morocco-Philippine political consultations meetings.

The two ministers welcomed the development of bilateral relations since the opening of Morocco’s embassy in Manila in 2017, and expressed willingness to continue their diplomatic ties.

The second session was also marked by the signing of an agreement on air services aimed at developing an international aviation system based on competition between airlines of both countries.

Both countries’ representatives also signed two memorandums to establish political consultations in both countries and develop a permanent bilateral framework of cooperation in the field of training young Moroccan and Filipino diplomats.
