Rabat – The President of the Morocco-Israel Business Council, Steve O’hana, said on a webinar on October 26 that Amwell Telemedicine Company would be soon established in Morocco.
Organized by the Israeli Employers and Business Organizations (IEBO), the webinar is dedicated to promoting commercial and investment opportunities available in Israel for Moroccan companies.
IEBO aims to create strong synergies between Moroccan and Israeli business communities for a promising future cooperation in economic and commercial areas.
During the webinar, O’hana said that Morocco-Israel collaboration “can expand to several sectors of common interests such as agriculture, renewable energy, water, industry, tourism, education, new technologies, innovation and cybersecurity.”
Amwell is one of the world leaders in the telemedicine sector with a headquarter in Boston, Massachusetts. It was founded in 2006 by brothers Ido and Roy Schoenberg; the two American-Israeli entrepreneurs grew up in a village near Jerusalem.
Amwell Company has an international presence and boasts a long-running partnership with Meuhedet, the third largest health insurance company in Israel. Amwell platform offers a digital care delivery solution and provides its clients with tools to implement new models of care for their patients.
“Beyond the bilateral relations, Moroccan-Israeli economic cooperation can therefore be part of a multilateral approach, in order to penetrate together new markets where each of our countries is present and competitive,” O’hana said during the videoconference.
He indicated that an electronic tool would be launched before the end of the year “to further facilitate access to information and promote exchange between the two business communities.”
The Business Council that O’hana chairs also aims to promote trade relations through connecting exporters and importers from Israel and Morocco.
The two countries re-established relations in December 2020, and recent data shows that trade between them has experienced a sharp surge following their diplomatic rapprochement.
According to Israel’s Central Bureau of Statistics, trade between Morocco and Israel moved from $14.9 million in January-July 2020 to $20.8 million in the same period in 2021.
The two countries are also enhancing their relations through the unveiling of new business opportunities for companies in the travel industry.
The Israeli airline El Al recently announced its plans to operate two flights a week instead of one between Marrakech and Tel Aviv.
