Rabat – An Algerian journalist has said he is “impressed” by Morocco’s progress in infrastructure and its ability to attract large-scale development projects, such as Mohammed VI Tangier Tech City.

Amid his tour of different Moroccan cities, Algerian journalist, Hicham Abboud, expressed his astonishment at the projects realized across the Kingdom, “a country that has neither oil nor gas as natural resources.”

The statements of the Algerian journalist, former editor-in-chief of the official magazine of the Algerian National People’s Army, Djeich, and current anti-regime activist, came in the context of the current mismanagement of the Algerian regime and its failure to attract and realize groundbreaking projects.

Abboud said that French Alstom, a rail transport operator, proposed the establishment of a fast train system in Algeria. Algerian decision-makers refused, however, thinking it was “high-end technology” that had no place in Algeria.

“It is currently establishing them [fast trains] in Morocco between Casablanca and Tangier.”

The Algerian anti-regime journalist also expressed his fascination with Mohammed VI Tangier Tech City near Tangier, a technological city that comprises smart residential complexes, industrial firms and learning centers.

“I have been on a visit in Morocco these days. I swear I regret coming to Morocco because I felt bad [for Algeria], my heart ached…” added an indignant Abboud. He noted that Morocco has neither oil nor gas as natural resources, yet has highways from Oujda to Casablanca with not even one single pothole.

“If you see the buildings and structures in Casablanca, you’d know they left us behind, it’s 20 years more advanced than we are. I am jealous of them,” he added.

Abboud pointed out that Algeria earned one trillion dollars in the last ten years and has not been able to make any tangible improvement to its infrastructure.
