New York – The Huffington Post, one of the U.S. major publications, has decided to add a strong disclaimer to all of its news coverage about Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump.
This week, The Huffington Post began placing a note at the bottom of every article related to Trump, calling him “a serial liar”, “rampant xenophobe”, “racist” and anti-Muslim among other names.
“Note to our readers: Donald Trump is a serial liar, rampant xenophobe, racist, birther and bully who has repeatedly pledged to ban all Muslims — 1.6 billion members of an entire religion — from entering the U.S.,” the note reads.
Each one of the adjectives used to describe Trump is hyperlinked to a previous story that exemplifies the label and supports the claim made by the American publication.
The first time the HuffPost used the disclaimer was at the bottom of an article on Friday night in regards to the billionaire candidate’s refusal to appear in the Republican debate on Fox News.
According to a HuffPost’s spokesperson who spoke to POLITICO magazine, the note will be placed in all “future stories” about Donald Trump.
“No other candidate has called for banning 1.6 billion people from the country! If any other candidate makes such a proposal, we’ll append a note under pieces about them,” the spokesperson said.
The Huffington Post had previously declared its dislike for the real estate mogul. According to the same source, in the summer of 2015, the newspaper announced it would publish Trump’s stories under the “Entertainment” headline instead of the “Politics” section.
However, the news website reversed the decision last December, when the candidate called for “a total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States” as the polls showed that he was as a strong contender for the GOP nomination.
When the HuffPost began to cover Trump under “Politics,” President and Editor-in-Chief, Arianna Huffington, said that his campaign had turned into “something repellent and threatening – laying bare a disturbing aspect of American politics,” and the publication would cover it accordingly.
“And part of that involves never failing to remind our audience who Trump is and what his campaign really represents …. So if Trump’s words and actions are racist, we’ll call them racist. If they’re sexist, we’ll call them sexist. We won’t shrink from the truth or be distracted by the showmanship,” she added
