Rabat – The English Football Association (FA) has aligned itself with UEFA in the escalating dispute over FIFA’s leadership, calling for sweeping reforms to the governing body’s management and decision-making processes.
In an official statement released this Saturday, the FA reaffirmed its support for UEFA’s position, signaling increasing concern among European football authorities over the direction of FIFA under President Gianni Infantino.”We fully support UEFA’s position,” the FA said.
The governing body stressed that the time has come for an in-depth review of FIFA’s leadership and governance framework to ensure greater transparency and accountability across world football.
“The global game must be governed in a transparent manner that serves the interests of all 211 member associations, while safeguarding football’s long-term future,” the statement read, adding that a comprehensive review of FIFA’s governance is now essential.
The FA’s backing comes as tensions between UEFA and FIFA continue to intensify. UEFA has recently urged Infantino to step aside and reportedly warned that it could seek a vote of no confidence if he refuses to resign.
The initiative has sparked criticism from several football stakeholders, who argue that such a move raises concerns over transparency, governance, and the long-term stewardship of the sport.
