Antsirabe – King Mohammed VI, accompanied by  Prince Moulay Ismail, and President of the Republic of Madagascar, Hery Rajaonarimampianina, launched, on Wednesday in Antsirabe, the construction works of the hospital “Mère et enfant” (mother and child) and a vocational training complex.

These projects, worth 220 million dirhams chipped in by the Mohammed VI Foundation for Sustainable Development, confirm the unwavering royal vision in favor of a robust, active and solidarity-based south-south cooperation.

The hospital will be built over a surface area of 50,000 square meters and will be operational by March 2019.

The facility will offer treatment for diseases related to women and children, and will provide health care for high risk pregnancies. It is also tasked with reducing maternal and infant mortality, offering training and transferring medical and paramedical capacities.

Totaling 160 million dirhams, the hospital is made up of one ground floor for a secure and optimized usage, with an architecture matching the local urban landscape.

With a capacity of 70 beds, the facility includes wards linked by wide corridors, intensive care units, rooms for maternal resuscitation, rooms for neonatology to provide medical care for premature babies, as well as rooms for gynecological and pediatric consultations.

The hospital comprises also three operation rooms for delivery and medical imaging (cardiac and standards ultrasound), in addition to a specialized laboratory.

The future facility is expected to involve 1,200 births, 8,000 obstetric gynecological consultations, 9,600 pediatric consultations, 1,800 emergency surgeries, 900 pediatric surgeries, 500 gynecological surgical procedures and 4,000 medical cases.

As for the vocational training complex, it will be constructed over 25,000 square meters for a budget totaling 60 million dirhams.

The complex, which will be operational by October 2018, is aimed at training the staff necessary for the sectors of civil engineering, tourism, hotel industry and catering. It is also meant to meet the needs of economic operators for skilled human resources, reinforce the employment of young people, promote their social and professional integration and support large-scale socio-economic development projects initiated in the country.

With a capacity of 1,000 trainee, the complex, which will be carried out in partnership with the Office of Vocational Training and Labor Promotion (OFPPT), the Malagasy ministry of employment, technical education and vocational training and the Antsirabe urban commune, will offer training in 21 subjects related to civil engineering, tourism, hotel industry and catering, and will ensure training for specialized technicians, technicians, and skilled workers.
