ICT Training: Morocco Wins Africa Code Week Award

Geneva – Morocco has climbed two positions in the ICT Development Index ranking 96th out of a total of 175 countries, according to a new report released Tuesday by International Telecommunications Union (ITU).

“Advancing countries such as Egypt (100) and Algeria (103), the Kingdom is among the middle-income States that have recorded the most dynamic improvements in the region”, the Geneva-based UN agency said.

The authors of the report are also pleased with the “strong performance” achieved by Morocco in terms of the proportion of households with Internet access.

The index takes into account more than a dozen indicators, particularly access to and use of technologies and skills in this field.

Korea tops the global Index rankings in 2016 for the second consecutive year.

The ITU’s flagship annual index measuring the information society report captures the level of ICT developments in 175 economies worldwide and compares progress since the year 2014.

The top ten countries of the Development Index 2016 also include two other economies in the Asia-Pacific region and seven European countries, reflecting the high level of ICT investment and innovation occurring in developed and high-income developing economies.
