Casablanca – With 2016 coming to an end FINALLY, I start my first day of 2017 with an official goodbye letter to this year.
I commence this year trying to forget about the fact that 2016 has shaped us all to understand how we definitely DO not have a choice in the matters of the world.
2016 you were disappointing, discouraging and finally you forced us all to grow up. You made us understand that most of the things that occur in our world is out of our hands. That the people we want to stay don’t usually stay and when we thought the United States was ready for a female candidate you completely and utterly failed us.
2016 you showed us that people could have the cruelest intentions to the space we are growing up in. Between the numerous bomb threats, and the actual bombs that actually happened, you shocked us.
From an optimist’s point of view, it may seem that I am going on a lot about all the negative aspects of this year, reminding myself that I’m already breaking my New Year resolution of being more positive.
Now for all the positive things that happened
2016 you taught me as an individual, that I can take everything you can give.
2016 you showed us numerous people fleeing from their homes in the harshest of conditions, however in the midst of the unkindness, people have found a home in you. You have been a great year for self-love, you have taught us and mostly women that it’s ok to love yourself; more than ok it’s not revolutionarily anymore.
2016 you were a true lesson learned, you saddened us enormously with no explanations. You taught us so many great things in the hardest ways possible. You were the strict parent grounding us for all the aspects that we took for granted in our lives. You gave and took more that you should have, taking away our favorite artists like Prince and David Bowie.
We leave you now with many questions that are unanswered, with lessons that we will take with us forever, and with world events that might change our world for the next couple of decades. We leave you with all that you didn’t give us.
We welcome 2017, with a clean slate, hoping for the better and waiting for better days. We are excited but a bit scared to see what it has in store for us.
2017 we are trusting you to be decent to us and to the world, to show us that more is yet to come of goodness.
