Rabat – Morocco’s General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) celebrated its 61st anniversary at the Royal Police Institute in Kenitra and announced future projects and reforms on May 16.

Director-General of National Security, Abdellatif Hamouchi, Morocco’s Minister of Interior, Abdelouafi Laftit, as well as other state officials, attended the 61st anniversary of the DGSN at the Royal Police Institute in Kenitra. During the event, a number of retired police officers were decorated.

The Director of the Royal Police Institute stated that the royal vision represents the forerunner of future projects aimed at developing the security services system, making security a pillar of development, promoting investment and contributing to the establishment of a secure environment.

He added that the DGSN has developed a comprehensive and integrated strategy to develop police structures, improve its services and increase its readiness at all levels of policing. This new strategy represents a deep and comprehensive reform of the police system, through efficient security governance. It will be predicated on how police units respond to public security demands.

To this end, the Director said that command and coordination centers have been created in a number of security buildings, with the aim of creating more of them in the near future. These centers will receive the demands of citizens and respond to them quickly and efficiently. They will also manage security interventions and coordinate efforts with other institutions.

In addition, security units and specialized security groups have been established. Their first concern is to enhance the sense of security among citizens, residents and visitors by combatting the growing threats of criminal phenomena and renewing the national security fleet.

The same official also announced that construction of the new headquarters of the DGSN is currently under examination, which will contain an integrated administrative community. Construction of a new headquarters for the Judicial Police and Scientific Police Laboratory in Casablanca are also underway.

The Director highlighted that the DGSN has given utmost importance to the rehabilitation of the human element. In this regard, he announced the adoption of a new charter for employment and police training. It will be focused primarily on fighting all fraudulent examinations, opening new disciplines and developing security-training courses.

The new charter will enable the transformation of police institutes into academic centers of security sciences, which will be capable of exporting the Moroccan experience in the field of security and training to other countries.
