Rabat – Authorities across several Moroccan provinces have stepped up preventive and field measures as heavy rain, snowfall, and strong winds affect different parts of the country, following red-level weather alerts issued by the General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM).
Berrechid: drainage operations intensified
In the province of Berrechid, field operations to evacuate rainwater continue amid recent weather disruptions.
The Regional Multiservices Company of Casablanca-Settat reinforced preventive drainage measures to protect infrastructure and maintain road and rail traffic.
Provincial authorities, through the local vigilance commission, coordinated efforts across all communes.
According to the provincial director of the company, rainfall totals exceeded 250 mm, prompting the deployment of tanker trucks, pumps, and nearly 50 staff members to clear water accumulation points and limit material damage.
Midelt: snow response
In Boumia, a mountainous commune in Midelt province, local authorities are being mobilized around-the-clock during intense cold and snowfall.
Interventions focused on reopening roads, assisting isolated douars, and ensuring service continuity.
Preventive measures followed recommendations of the provincial vigilance committee for the 2025-2026 winter season.
“Dar Al Oumouma” in Boumia received pregnant women from nearby rural areas to ensure safe medical follow-up during snow episodes.
Road maintenance teams pre-positioned equipment in snow-prone areas such as Tizi n’Telghemt, Imilchil, Tounfite, Anfegou, and along National Road 13.
Chtouka Ait Baha: preventive coordination, school closures
The provincial vigilance committee of Chtouka Ait Baha held an expanded meeting to review proactive measures ahead of expected bad weather.
Authorities stressed coordination between services, rapid intervention, and protection of people and property.
Measures included road reopening plans, cleaning of waterways, protection of electricity and water networks, and placing health facilities on full alert.
Classes faced temporary suspension as a precaution. On the ground, crisis units operated in communes such as Imi Mqourn and Biougra to prevent flooding and secure key road links.
Agadir Ida-Outanane: emergency measures after Red Alert
In Agadir Ida-Outanane, the prefectural vigilance committee met following a Red-level Alert forecasting heavy rainfall of 80 to 120 mm.
Authorities ordered the deployment of intervention teams near high-risk areas, awareness campaigns in mountainous and river-adjacent zones, and assistance for homeless individuals.
The alert also covered the provinces of Taroudant and Essaouira.
Essaouira: maximum alert on land and at sea
In Essaouira, local authorities activated a wide-ranging emergency plan in response to forecasts of heavy rain, violent winds, and strong swell.
Civil Protection services operated under maximum alert, with continuous monitoring of flood-prone areas.
The Regional Multiservices Company of Marrakech-Safi reinforced its intervention plan to secure electricity and sanitation networks.
At the port, the National Ports Agency enforced a navigation ban for all fishing vessels as winds were expected to exceed 90 km/h, with waves surpassing five meters.
Morocco has recently faced recurrent weather disturbances, prompting the DGM to issue several orange and red alerts.
Authorities have urged citizens to remain cautious, limit non-essential travel, and follow safety instructions, particularly in vulnerable areas, as preventive measures remain in place to reduce risks to people and infrastructure.
