The 10-year-old child of Palestinian origins wanted to reach his mother who was staying in Melilla.
Rabat – Spanish police have arrested two Moroccans, a man and a woman, after they attempted to cross the Moroccan-Spanish border in Melilla with a 10-year-old Palestinian child hiding in their shopping trolley.
The arrest took place on Tuesday, December 31, at around 1 pm, according to Spanish newspaper El Periodico.
Spanish border patrol officers inspected the trolley after noticing its unusual weight. After removing bags of vegetables and fruit, the officers discovered the child.
The child was in good health, according to Spanish police, and was carrying identity documents proving his Palestinian nationality and his age.
Police found out that the child’s mother was staying in a Center of Temporary Immigrants in Melilla and took him there.
The Moroccans, however, will face prosecution for crimes against a foreign citizen.
The woman, 38, and the man, 34, will remain in custody until their trial at a Spanish court.
