Rabat – Morocco’s government is currently reviewing the country’s ongoing border restrictions that have been increasing since late 2020.
“The issue of access to the territory is on the table,” a government source reportedly told the Moroccon news outlet Le360, suggesting possible easing of the border restrictions in the near future.
The same source also suggested that the government will make an official announcement on the subject in the coming week, with the Moroccan news organization proposing that “All indications are that new measures will soon be announced to ease restrictions on access to Morocco.”
The news comes a week after the government announced the pushing back of the nationwide curfew, from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. starting from May 20. After half a year of nationwide restrictions — marked by the resurgence of COVID-19 cases in Morocco — the Moroccan public welcomed the easing of the curfew.

Just in time for Summer, the suggested border reopening comes as great news for Moroccans working in the tourist sector, which saw a loss of $4.8 billion (MAD 42.4 billion) in revenue last year, as well as the many Moroccans Residing Abroad (MREs) hoping to come home for a holiday during the annual Marhaba operation.
Ultimately, the lifting of flight suspensions and the reopening of borders are in the hands of Morocco’s Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, based on the advice of the country’s scientific and advisory committee.
Currently, Morocco’s no-fly list affects 54 countries, across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, as well as India, Australia, Argentina and Brazil. Meanwhile, the epidemiological situation in the North African country remains stable, with only 385 new cases and two COVID-19-related deaths on May 26.
Morocco has registered a total of 517,808 cases, and 9,131 deaths since the outbreak of the pandemic in early 2020.
As for the country’s national vaccination campaign, following the resumption of vaccine deliveries, Morocco has successfully vaccinated 8,148,964 people with the first dose, and an additional 4,996,705 people with the second dose.
