Rabat – A recent study indicates one out of two Moroccans believe prenuptial sex is a personal choice, and the study has been circulating across local media and social networks.
The study, based on 1312 responses from across Morocco, “dealt with the reality of individual freedoms” in the country.
For instance, at least 76.7% of Moroccans believe that relationships outside marriage are common. At least 60% have some knowledge of someone who has engaged in sex outside of marriage or civil union. Moreover, more than 50% of Moroccans believe that the decision is a matter of “individual freedom.”
The study claims that the “awareness of the necessity of body freedom penetrates the entirety of the social groups represented in the sample,” exceeding the 50% mark across the survey.
The authors of the study believe it is an important development, but warn that the data should be viewed with caution, as the the answers could be driven by a place of disinterest rather than out of respect for a person’s individual freedoms.
In terms of ensuring that women’s bodily freedom is respected, there were very few responses that indicated positive attitudes. Men and women who responded to our survey generally did not consider such displays to be a sign of open-mindedness and education.
On the other hand, 31.3% of those surveyed considered them “disrespectful, perverted, cheap and poorly brought,” while 0.6% considered them “infidels.”
Overall, almost 80% of respondents believe that an individual’s body is a “very private thing” and the person is free to do with it as they wish.
