Rabat – The Ministry of Agriculture has announced a good performance in terms of agriculture and maritime exports.
The ministry said the good performance in exports of maritime and fishing products this season came despite a difficult global situation due to COVID-19.
Exports of fresh fruits and vegetables between September 1, 2020, and July 27, 2021 from Morocco increased by nearly 2 million tonnes in comparison with 1.88 million tonnes during the previous campaign.
The number represents a growth of 5%.
Citrus exports amounted to more than 537,000 tonnes, representing an increase of 3% compared to the previous season.
Agriculture products reached an exported volume of 1.44 million tonnes, representing a 6% increase compared to the previous campaign.
Growth in exports of peppers and red fruits were among the factors behind the increase.
Exports of processed agricultural products, excluding sugar, reached 323,000 tonnes between January 1 and July 27 this year, representing an increase of 2% compared to the same period in 2020.
Exports of fishery products fell by 9% in volume and increased by 15% in value during the period from January 1 to July 27 compared to the same period last year.
The agriculture ministry was also pleased with this season’s crop production campaign last month.
The ministry said that the final production of the three main cereals for the 2020-2021 campaign is estimated at nearly 103.2 million quintals (Mqx) compared to the 31.1 Mqx in the previous season.
Development in the sector took place after a difficult season in the previous year due to exceptionally poor rainfalls and COVID-19 crisis declining the progress further.
