Denver – King Mohammed VI, on Thursday, October 28, sent a celebratory message to Czech President Milos Zeman in commemoration of Czechoslovak Independence Day.
The annual holiday is regarded as among the most important of Czech holidays. Celebrated on October 28th, the date commemorates the Czechoslovak people’s independence from the Austro-Hungarian Empire in 1918.
In his message, King Mohammed VI expressed congratulations to Zeman, as well as his best wishes for the Czech people. King Mohammed also took the time to reflect on the bilateral cooperation between Czechia and Morocco, hoping to further strengthen current initiatives to bring the two nations closer.
The two countries have maintained cordial relations, and earlier this year Czechia emerged as one of Morocco’s most ardent supporters in the European Parliament. During Rabat’s row with Madrid earlier this year, Czech politicians immediately defended the north African country against Spain’s attempts to involve the EU in drafting a resolution against Morocco.
Moroccan and Czech officials have made trips between the two countries, establishing political, economic, and security cooperation agreements.
Alongside South Africa, Morocco represents Czechia’s largest trading partner in Africa. Data from the World Bank shows Czech exports to Morocco totaled over $430 million in 2019.
Morocco has continued to forge stronger ties with several countries in central and eastern Europe, as it seeks greater economic investment from the region.
Recent trips were organized to bring European businessmen to tour the country, in hopes more funding could be gathered for the economic development of Morocco’s infrastructure in the southern cities of Dakhla and Laayoune.
