Rabat – Netflix’s “Squid Game” is back for round 2. The series’ creator Hwang Dong-Hyuk has confirmed that the hit Netflix series is getting another season.

The writer and director made the revelation to the Associated Press, when asked about public calls for more episodes.

“There’s been so much pressure, so much demand and so much love for a second season. So I almost feel like you leave us no choice,” Hwang told the Associated Press on Tuesday.

The creator of the South Korean hit that has become Netflix’s most popular show ever said season 2 was still “in the planning process”, and did not provide details about a release date or when they would start filming. “It’s still too early to say when the season will be produced,” he added.

He continued: “Gi-Hun will come back, and he will do something for the world.”

Released on Sept. 17, “Squid Game” follows Seong Gi-Hun, played by Lee Jung-jae, as he and hundreds of other desperate and deeply indebted contestants compete in a violent and often grotesque competition for roughly $38 million. Only one person can win the prize, and those who lose the series of children’s games have to die.

Netflix’s hit TV show is reportedly worth almost $900 million (MAD 8.12 billion) based on its impact value, according to documents reviewed by Bloomberg.

The series has gone viral in several social media platforms, and the “Squid Game” hashtag has been viewed over 22.8 billion times on TikTok, according to an NBC News report. Social media features content showing videos of people replicating the series’ children’s games, while online retailers are rushing to sell “Squid Game” halloween costumes.

However, the series has also drawn criticism for its violence, and the Parents Television and Media Council (PTC) has urged parents to be vigilant in case their children “find themselves perusing their feeds and pressing play.”
