Rabat- Amid fears of the Omicron variant, Morocco has decided to ban “festivals as well as all cultural and artistic events,” the government said in a communique on Friday night.
According to the statement, the government urged citizens and residents to get vaccinated and adhere to all the measures the government has put in place to address the COVID-19 crisis.
The statement added that the government’s decision was made to “maintain the positive results the country has achieved so far.”
As for today, Morocco recorded 151 new Covid-19 cases, raising the total of cases since the beginning of the outbreak to 950,374.
The kingdom has also reported 2 COVID-19 related deaths in the past 24 hours.

Morocco remains under a state of emergency, allowing authorities to swiftly take proactive measures in case the country’s epidemiological situation deteriorates.
Morocco introduced the state of emergency in March 2020, as part of the country’s continued preventive campaign to combat the resurgence in COVID cases.
Earlier this week, the Moroccan government decided to reduce the number of participants in funerals to a maximum of 10 people.
Moroccan authorities also announced that they are suspending all direct flights to the kingdom for two weeks, starting on Monday the 29th of November, citing fears of the Omicron variant.
