Rabat – Morocco’s Atlas Lions games against Democratic Republic of Congo in the playoffs round of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 have been scheduled for March 26 and 29.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) revealed yesterday the schedule of the ten matches of the play-offs for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.
Morocco’s Atlas Lions and DR Congo’s Leopards’ first leg is set for March 26, at the Martyrs Stadium in Kinshasa, DR Congo’s capital, while the second leg is set to take place three days later at the Mohammed V Stadium in Casablanca.
Emad Shenouda, manager of Interclubs Competition at CAF, said that each federation involved in the play-off matches will be able to contact CAF if the kick-off date and time are inconvenient for any reason.
CAF will assess the rationale for the request and make a final decision, he added.
Ten African teams are competing for five spots in the Qatar World Cup this summer.
Morocco’s national squad was undefeated in the previous rounds, collecting 18 points out 18 and scoring 20 goals while only conceding 1.
Before Egypt’s Pharaohs defeated and eliminated the Moroccan squad in the AFCON quarter finals, the Atlas Lions had an undefeated streak of more than 30 games under Bosnian coach Vahid Halilhodzic.
Commenting on the Atlas Lions’ disappointing exit from the AFCON tournament, Morocco’s goalkeeper, Yassin Bounou, said the team will do their best to make Moroccan fans happier at the 2022 Qatar World Cup playoffs.
