Rabat – Morocco’s Youth, Culture, and Communication Minister, Mehdi Bensaid, inaugurated today the new Rabat headquarters for the Pan Africa Youth Union.
The decision to move Africa’s Youth Council’s headquarters from Sudan to Africa recognizes Morocco’s growing assertiveness and leadership in promoting Africa’s unity, as well as King Mohammed VI’s advocacy for youth on the continent, according to Aliou Oumarou, the president of the Pan-African Youth Union.
The pan-African organization aims to empower young African leaders and to maximize youth engagement in the continent’s economic, political, social, and political development, Oumarou explained.
Accompanied by youth ministers and ambassadors from across Africa, Bensaid attended a ceremony at one of Rabat’s historical sites, Challah.
During the ceremony, attendees were presented with a documentary shedding light on the continent’s strengths and challenges. The screening highlighted the need for Africa’s youth to work collectively to address the most pressing shared challenges emerging across the continent.
Toward the end of the ceremony, the president and secretary-general of the Pan-African youth union received trophies in recognition of the group’s efforts to promote the creation of the African Union.
The Panafrican Youth Council had previously announced plans to move the organization’s headquarters from Sudan to Morocco in November 2020 on the backdrop of the signing an agreement with Morocco’s Youth, Culture, and Communication Minister.
Speaking on the occasion of signing the agreement, Bensaid had underscored Morocco’s unwavering commitment to supporting the organization’s programs serving Africa’s youth.
He also stressed the importance of presenting Morocco’s experiences in promoting youth development across the African continent.
Dedicated to the African youth, the Pan-African Youth Union aims to promote peace, democracy, and sustainable development, paving the way for a stronger African Union.
