Rabat – The riots damaged many facilities and parts of the Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat, Morocco, injuring a number of police and auxiliary forces, as well as vandalizing several vehicles.
The General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) of Morocco stated that the security operations launched following the riots resulted in the arrest of 160 people, including 90 minors.
The Moroccan DGSN arrested rioters on charges of sports-related riots, possession of weapons, public drunkenness, throwing stones, causing material losses to private and public properties, and deliberately setting fire to 33 vehicles, according to police reports.

The police report also stated that 85 policemen suffered injuries of varying severity, “including 63 wounded who were transferred to Ibn Sina University Hospital, 14 injured were kept in the Specialized Hospital, and 8 wounded were transferred to the Military Hospital in Rabat.”
18 members of Morocco’s auxiliary forces and 57 civilians suffered injuries with varying degrees of severity, including 34 injured treated on the spot by the medical and nursing teams. Other civilians were transferred to various hospitals in Rabat.
The National Security forces reported material losses to many facilities and parts of the stadium. The rioters set fire to a motorcycle and vandalized 33 vehicles, including police vehicles and cars parked outside of the stadium.
Morocco’s Public Prosecutor declared that authorities will launch an in-depth investigation to determine the degree of involvement of each of the detainees, as well as to identify all rioters involved in acts of vandalism, the official statement concludes.
Several records from all surveillance cameras are being reviewed, in order to identify and locate all those involved in the violence and riots occurring after the Sunday football match.
