Rabat – Speaker of Morocco’s House of Councilors Naama Mayara and the President of the Equatorial Guinean Senate Teresa Efua Asangono have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to boost parliamentary exchange.
The MoU intends to regularly hold consultations on issues of common interest, while strengthening coordination between the two countries and boosting solidarity and mutual support to converge views at the regional and continental levels.
The memorandum falls within the work of the 11th conference of the Association of Senates, Shoora, and Equivalent Councils in Africa and the Arab World (ASSECAA) and the Parliamentary Dialogue Forum of the Senates of Latin America and the Caribbean.
The agreement also aims to establish constant communication and parliamentary interaction by intensifying the exchange of visits, expertise, and experiences of the two chambers.
In a press release, the House of Councilors noted that Mayara and Efua Asangono will also focus on strengthening joint actions through cooperation programs, conferences, and forums based on topics of common interest.
The two representatives also spoke on consolidating cooperation between parliamentary friendship groups, between the House of Councilors and the Equatorial Guinean Senate, as well as supporting the capacities of parliamentary staff in legislation, parliamentary diplomacy, and the evaluation of public policies.
The convention is part of the two countries’ commitment to deepen the ties of understanding, friendship, and cooperation, while also strengthening gender equality and promoting tolerance and peace, the statement said.
It is also part of Morocco and Equatorial Guinea’s commitment to boost parliamentary dialogue and consultation as a means to consolidate the bonds between the two legislative institutions and between the people, the statement concluded.
