Rabat – Irish low-cost airline Ryanair has announced plans to launch a new air route linking the central French city of Clermont-Ferrand to Fez in Morocco.
The new route, which is part of Ryanair’s winter program for the 2022-2023 period, is expected to operate two flights weekly.
“We are pleased to add this new route to Fez to our Winter 2022 program, which now has two lines in total across Morocco and Portugal, boosting international tourism in Clermont-Ferrand and the Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes region,” said Ryanair’s Chief Commercial Officer Jason McGuinness.
The soon-to-be-launched flights will enable travelers from the Clermont-Ferrand region to discover Fez, the third largest city in Morocco, known for its centuries-old Medina, which is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Founded in the ninth century, the Medina of Fez is considered as one of the most extensive and best conserved historic towns of the Arab-Muslim world, according to UNESCO.
Herve Bonin, Director of Clermont-Ferrand Auvergne Airport, said the new route will be especially of use for the Moroccan community residing in the region who can now easily travel back home.
Several airlines resumed flights to and from Morocco and unveiled their summer programs after the country lifted the travel ban on February 7.
Ryanair’s summer 2022 flights from Agadir-Al Massira airport connect the city to several European destinations.
The Irish airline will fly to 28 destinations from Agadir this summer, with 19 new routes to 10 European countries.
Meanwhile, the Israeli airline Israir has also unveiled its summer flight schedule to operate two weekly flights linking Marrakech and Tel Aviv between April to October 2022.
