Morocco’s Nasrrddine Youbi Among World’s Best Earth Science Scholars

Rabat – Nasrrddine Youbi, Moroccan Earth Science Scientist and scholar, is the only Moroccan to appear on an international ranking for the world’s top earth science scientists.

With more than 4,700 citations in academic publications, Youbi ranked 4132 in Research’s 2022 ranking of the World’s Top Science Earth Scientists.

Currently serving as the director of the “Lithospheric Dynamics and Resource Formation” (DLGR) Laboratory, a research institute in Morocco, Youbi has 142 publications in scientific journals and periodicals.

The Moroccan researcher scored 34 on the H-index, a measure of a researcher’s productivity and the citation impact of all their publications.

His work focuses on researching volcanic, reef, and earth history.

The Research ranking is based on scientific publications, citations, and the impact of 166,880 scientists in the field of earth sciences.

Youbi has been a scholar and professor of geology at the Semlalia Faculty of Science at Morocco’s Cadi Ayyad University in Marrakech since 1987.

He received his doctorate in volcanic and geochemical in 1998 from the same university.

Youbi equally served as head of the Geography Department at the Marrakech-based university between 2014 and 2017, and he has been an expert in the scientific committees of the National Center for Scientific Research (CNRST) in Rabat since 2008.

It’s not the first time that Youbi features in a ranking of top researchers. In 2014, the scientist appeared on a list of the “Top 15” Moroccan researchers, according to data reported by Dubai Week.

The ranking comprised a list of the country’s most impactful researchers in terms of publications in the earth and cosmology sciences over a period of 15 years.

In the course of his academic career, the Moroccan professor has received a number of research grants from numerous countries, including Brazil, Spain, France, Italy, Portugal, India, Russia, and the United States.
