Rabat – Morocco’s Customs and Indirect Tax Administration (ADII) office has announced implementing a set of measures to facilitate the 2022 Marhaba operation.
“To guarantee the success of this operation, the administration is mobilizing all the necessary human and logistical resources. This year’s campaign will see the implementation of new facilitation measures,” the ADII said in an official statement.
In particular, the new measures include the automatic extension of the validity periods for the Temporary Admission (AT) licenses for vehicles until December 31, Morocco’s press agency quoted ADII’s statement as noting.
In addition, Morocco’s customs administration will now authorize the transfer of vehicles between non-residents living in different countries should the recipient of the vehicle be the owner of the vehicle, the report details.
The country’s customs administration has equally announced plans to offer tax cuts on imported cars for Moroccans residing abroad aged 60 and over who have resided outside of Morocco for more than 10 years.
To facilitate the registration process for these vehicles, ADII said that car owners are no longer required to provide a registration certificate. Instead, they could present to the customs authorities any documents proving ownership of the vehicle.
The administration also added in its statement that Moroccans residing abroad will no longer need special authorization to use foreign-registered vehicles that are under AT licenses.
Moroccans residing abroad having lost their AT licenses can now issue a new license without presenting legal documents proving that they had lost the original document.
In its statement, ADII notably recalled the 2021 amendment to the finance law requiring individuals leaving or arriving in Morocco to report to the customs authorities any possession valued at or superior to MAD 100,000 ($10,000).
The administration’s statement concluded by warning that failure to comply with these regulations would subject travelers to fines amounting to half of the value of the undeclared possession.
