Rabat – Football club Renaissance Sportive de Berkane today won the Moroccan Throne Cup final after beating Wydad Athletic Club (WAC) 2-3 in penalty kicks.
The much-anticipated game took place at Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex in the capital city of Rabat.
Neither Wydad AC nor RS Berkane were able to score goals during the initial 90 minutes of the match.
The two teams also failed to secure goals during the 30 minutes extra time with penalties-kick shoutout determining tonight’s winner: RS Berkane.
Despite their defeat in the final, Wydad AC produced a spectacular performance throughout the tournament, including in today’s match.
Last May, Wydad AC won the CAF Champions League after beating Egypt’s Al Ahly 2-0 in the final which took place at the Mohammed V Stadium in Casablanca.
The Throne Cup final is part of Throne Day celebrations. Each year on July 30, Morocco celebrates the day of King Mohammed VI’s accession to the throne.
