Rabat – Israel tops the list of countries where populations applied for an e-visa to enter Morocco, with the program so far being considered a success by the Moroccan government.

Announcing the news during a press conference on Thursday, Mustapha Baitas, the Moroccan government’s spokesperson, detailed the performance of the e-visa program so far.

“This is one of the new government programs in the country that we hope to expand, because it is fast and efficient,” Baitas said. “It will enable a group of countries and tourists hoping to come to our country to avoid complicated administrative regulations.”

Moroccan authorities have received 4,241 requests for e-visas in the two weeks since it launched, he revealed, adding that 540 of those requests were for an express visa.

As of Thursday, 2,385 visas were granted, 795 were awaiting additional paperwork from the applicants, 445 were undergoing review, and 58 e-visa requests were rejected.

Baitas concluded by confirming that Israel is currently the country with the most people wanting to use e-visas to enter Morocco.

On July 10, Morocco launched the “Access Maroc” site where foreign nationals residing in select countries can apply for an e-visa to Morocco, granting them entry into the country without visiting a consulate.

The visa allows foreign visitors to stay in Morocco for up to 30 days and is valid for 180 days after it is issued. Visas can be issued for tourism and business purposes through the site.

The new program is part of Morocco’s move towards digitizing some of its administrative processes, as well as revitalizing the tourism sector which is recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic.
