Rabat – Four Moroccan students have distinguished themselves at the 2022 International Mathematics Competition (IMC) for University Students, winning two gold medals and two silver medals, the Math&Maroc association announced on Friday.
Organized by the University College London, this year’s IMC took place between August 1 and 7 at the American University in Blagoevgrad, Bulgaria.
“We are very proud to announce that the four medalists are all members of the Math&Maroc association,” the association said. The winners were Issam Tauil, Ziad Oumzil, Ahmed Chahlaoui, and Aymane Maaitat.
Tauil, who is the coach of the Moroccan national team and a student at the Ecole Polytechnique in France, claimed a silver medal at the competition. He won a gold medal during his participation in the previous edition of the tournament, Math&Maroc indicated.
Oumzil, the Vice President of the Math&Maroc training department, won a gold medal. A first-year student at Ecole Polytechnique, Oumzil also participated in the International Mathematics Olympiad in 2019 where he claimed a bronze medal.
Chahlaoui and Maaitat, who are both first-year students at the Ecole Polytechnique, won a silver and a gold medal respectively.

The association congratulated the “champions” on their win, wishing them the best of luck in their studies and future competitions.
The IMC 2022, which is one of the most prestigious international mathematics competitions, saw the participation of more than 600 university students from the world‘s top universities.
Last month, another Moroccan national team achieved outstanding results at the 63rd edition of the International Mathematics Olympics (IMO) in Oslo, Norway. Consisting of six young Moroccan mathematicians, the team scored a total of 82 points in the olympiad, the North African country’s highest score since 2004.
