Rabat – Morocco’s Atlas Lion Yassine Bounou, who plays for the Spanish club Sevilla FB, is nominated for the 2022 Ballon d’Or Yashin trophy, an award that the French magazine France Football presents annually to the best performing goalkeeper.
Established in 2019, the award is named after the late Lev Ivanovish Yashin, a soviet football player who is widely considered as the greatest goalkeeper in the history of football.
Also nominated for the award are Real Madrid’s Thibaut Courtois, Manchester City’s Ederson, AC Milan’s Mike Maignan, and Chelsea’s Edouard Mendy.
Atletico Madrid’s Jan Oblak, Eintracht Frankfurt’s Kevin Trapp, and Tottenham’s Hugo Lloris complete the list of the nominees.
Bounou completed an exceptional 2021-2022 season with his Spanish club and solidified his reputation by becoming Sevilla’s first goalkeeper to win the Zamora trophy for the best goalkeeper in LaLiga, the Spanish football league.
The 31-year-old’s nomination for the prestigious French award adds to the Moroccan goalkeeper’s positive influence on the achievements of the Andalusian club since he joined in summer of 2019.
The Moroccan international also won the prestigious LaLiga Santander African MVP Trophy, which rewards the best African player in Spain’s league.
Bounou, who conceded 24 goals in 31 league matches in the 2021-22 season, has signed a one-year extension to his contract with Sevilla that was set to expire in 2024.
According to Tansfermarket, the Moroccan footballer has a current market value of 15 million EURO.
With his remarkable performance, Bounou is also a key player on the Moroccan national football team, which has secured its spot at the upcoming 2022 Qatar World Cup.
