Rabat – Customs authorities in Northern Morocco aborted an attempt to smuggle 42 kg of drugs outside of Morocco on Friday.
According to an official statement, the authorities arrested two German women who were in possession of 42 kg of Chira — a variant of cannabis — in the form of plates.
The drugs were carefully hidden inside cavities near the engine of a car registered in Germany, the statement added, noting that police intercepted the car at Bab Sebta, a crossing point between Morocco and the Spanish enclaves Ceuta and Millela.
In a second operation carried out earlier today, Morocco’s customs authorities and the police in Bab Sebta thwarted another drug trafficking attempt to Europe, the statement indicates.
The operation involved busting 137 kg of Chira, added the statement, explaining that the perpetrators used a vehicle registered in Spain to carry out the operation.
One of the suspects was identified as a Spanish national of Moroccan origins. Upon inspecting the vehicle, customs officers found the drugs carefully hidden inside cavities behind the vehicle’s dashboard, under the passenger seats, and on the two sides of the interior part of the vehicle, the statement noted.
The suspects were then transferred to the police department in Tetouan for an in-depth investigation under the supervision of the local public prosecutor’s office.
