Casablanca – Prince Moulay Rachid did not accompany King Mohammed VI during the opening of the parliament’s legislative year due to COVID-19.
Morocco’s national TV channel Al Aoula said the Prince will miss the opening of the legislative year as he tested positive for the virus.
The Prince recently represented Morocco during the funeral of the late Queen Elizabeth II in Britain, alongside hundreds of other representatives from around the world.
Broadcasted on national television and radio channels at 5 pm, the royal speech focused on the water crisis and investment in the country.
Last year, the King’s speech reaffirmed Morocco’s determination to strengthen its position in order to safeguard its interests, particularly territorial integrity.
The speech also highlighted Morocco’s plan to deal with the consequences of COVID-19, as well as the execution of Morocco’s new development model.
The new development model is part of the country’s continuing reforms aimed at addressing socioeconomic concerns such as unemployment and economic growth.
It also focuses on modernizing several sectors of Moroccan society, including agriculture, education, health, investment, and taxation.
While Morocco was experiencing an economic crisis, including an increase in poverty and vulnerability as a result of the COVID crisis and inflation new international developments are making the situation more complex.
