Rabat – Brazil won their first match in the 2022 Qatar World Cup against Serbia 2-0, finishing the first round of group stage matches.
The first half ended without any goals, with both teams seeking to take the lead going into the second half of the match.
It was at minute 63 that Richarlison scored for Brazil, taking a rebound from Vinicius Jr’s shot, which was blocked by Serbia’s goalkeeper.
Brazil continued to pressure the Serbs, eventually culminating in a 73rd minute goal from a stunning scissor kick by Richarlison , who doubled the lead with what many are describing as an early contender for goal of the tournament.
Despite Neymar and Richarlison leaving the pitch, Brazil continued to pressure their opponents, maintaining their lead until the final full-time whistle.
Brazil’s national team, who hold the title for most World Cup titles won with 5, is one of the favorites to take home the title this year, which would be the first time in 20 years.
The team promised football fans to see a “better Neymar” in this competition, with Brazil’s captain Thiago Silva citing injuries in past competitions as reasons why the football star couldn’t display his full potential.
Serbia is participating in the World Cup for the third time as an independent nation, and had a successful lead-up to the competition.
Switzerland and Cameroon faced off earlier today, in the other fixture of group G, with Switzerland managing to squeeze out a 1-0 win.
With this, all teams have played their first games in the competition, and tomorrow will see Qatar and Senegal try to recover from their losses in the opening matches.
