Rabat – Royal Air Maroc, Morocco’s national carrier airline, announced that it will offer new flights to Doha for Moroccan football fans who wish to cheer on their national team in the 2022 World Cup.

“Following the historic qualification of the national team to the World Cup’s semi-finals, and to allow supporters to continue backing the national team during their next game, Royal Air Maroc is putting in place facilities for managing their tickets,” the airline said in a statement quoted by Morocco’s Press Agency (MAP).

Royal Air Maroc is also planning to maintain its flights from Doha to Morocco, for fans who wish to return to their country.

For those who wish to stay, the airline will offer the chance to rearrange return dates free of charge or additional fees on this occasion.

On Saturday, Morocco’s national football team made history by beating Portugal 1-0 and qualifying for the World Cup semi-finals, becoming the first African and Arab country to achieve the feat.

Moroccan supporters in the stands have played a big part in the team’s victories so far, with international outlets and even FIFA themselves lauding the audience for providing support for the team.

Many have said Moroccan players felt as if they were playing on a home pitch, thanks to the rallying of all Arab and African fans behind the Atlas Lions as they have become their sole representative in the competition.

Morocco’s team also gained support from a wider audience who were not following the team before  watching the competition, as they have emerged as the competition’s dark horse and underdog story.
