Rabat – FIFA has named Morocco’s goalkeeper Yassine Bounou as the Man of the Match following the Morocco vs Spain round of 16 game.
Bounou earned his title after being able to not only remain resilient against Spain’s strikes at the goal in the main match but also throughout the penalties.
Spain failed to score goals against Bounou during the penalties, with Morocco finishing the game with 3-0.
With this win, the Atlas Lions secured a well-deserved qualification for the quarter-finals.
Morocco will either face Portugal or Switzerland on Saturday. The potential rival will be determined today as both teams will play their round of 16 match tonight at 8 p.m. Moroccan time.
The Atlas Lions made spectacular performances that many public figures and football organizations have commended.
Prior to the match, FIFA said: “The FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 has been a dream come true for the Atlas Lions, who topped their group to qualify for the round of 16 and become the first African team to earn seven points in a FIFA World Cup group stage, all while being led by a Moroccan coach.”
