Sharjah Public Finance Prize Seminar Aims to Support Arab Economies

Rabat – In cooperation with Morocco’s Ministry of Economy and Finance, Sharjah’s Central Finance Department is holding an introductory symposium for the second edition of the Sharjah Prize in Public Finance.

Attended by a number of high-ranking officials and government agency representatives, the seminar focuses on “defining the award, its vision and objectives,” according to a press release.

It also aims to focus on outlining the prize beneficiaries and evaluation criteria, as well as participation conditions and other titles that will be awarded.

Rashid bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Secretary-General of the Sharjah Prize in Public Finance, said the award has focused on encouraging optimal use of financial resources and achieving sustainable development.

The award also aims to motivate Arab economies to stay in line with international best practices in managing government finances and planning public finance strategies.

The first day of the symposium included a training workshop on public budgets from a gender perspective.

The Sharjah Public Finance Award was launched by the Central Finance Department in accordance with an Emiri decree issued in 2016, the press release added, emphasizing that it features workshops and seminars held in several Arab countries.

The seminar in Morocco is part of a larger series which started in October 2022. Other Arab countries that held seminars related to the award include Egypt and Palestine.

The second cycle for the prize was launched in August 2022.
