Rabat – English Premier League club West Ham United are said to be interested in signing Morocco international and Sevilla FC striker Youssef En-Nesyri, with the player having impressed at the 2022 World Cup.

The Hammers, as the English club is nicknamed, want to improve their attacking options in the January transfer window, but the deal is challenging for En-Nesyri since he still has two and a half years on his contract, reports have suggested.

According to spanish sports outlet Marca, West Ham isn’t sure about a full transfer, but they could try to get a loan deal with an option to buy at the end of the season for around £20-25million.

The Hammers were rumored to have made a £30 million approach for En-Nesyri ahead of the 2021 season, but Sevilla turned them down.

Sevilla is currently battling at the bottom of La Liga, Spain’s top-tier football league.  They are barely above the relegation zone on goal difference, and they may not be ready to let one of their key players go this month.

With 15 goals scored in 18 games, West Ham is one of the lowest-scoring teams in the Premier League this season. No player has scored more than three goals in the league so far for the Hammers.

Meanwhile, En-Nesyri has been superb for both country and club in recent months.

The three goals the Moroccan striker scored on January 4 helped Sevilla advance to the round of 16 of the Copa del Rey.

On December 10, En-Nesyri dazzled the world with a spectacular header against Portugal in the quarter-finals of the World Cup.

En-Nesyri’s goals in Qatar helped Morocco become the first African and Arab country to reach the World Cup semifinals.

With his club, Youssef En-Nesyri won the La Liga Santander Player of the Month award and became the top Moroccan goal scorer in a single season in La Liga’s history in January 2021.

Schooled at the Mohammed VI Football Academy in Sale near Rabat, Youssef En-Nesyri played with Malaga before signing for Leganes in 2018. In January 2020,  he moved to Sevilla FC for a record fee of €20 million (MAD 215 million).
