Rabat – As the world honors prominent female figures who shine in different fields, Rajaa Khouimi is among a growing list of inspiring Moroccan women whose odds-defying success stories and dedication to several social causes deserve to be highlighted and celebrated.
Over the years, Khouimi has established a long-standing and inspiring career in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), a largely male-dominated field.
With more than a 25-year-long experience as an IS Information Systems (IS) manager in banks, Khouimi currently holds the position of Head of Core Banking System at Société Générale African Business Services.
In 1996, she received a bachelor’s degree in Information Technology (IT) from the National Institute of Statistics and Applied Economics (INSEA) in Rabat, before receiving a master’s degree in IT and Finance from the same school. She later studied Business Administration and Management (MBA) at the Ecole des Ponts Business School in Paris.
Khouimi began her career in 1998 as a development engineer at a bank, where she worked for two years, before taking the position of an integration engineer between 2000 and 2007.
She then worked as a Senior Project Manager in Risk Management for almost nine years – between 2008 and 2016. Her extensive experience working in banks opened the doors for her to become the Information System Director of Bank Al Yousr between 2016 and 2018.
Empowering young women
Despite her professional and personal commitments, Khouimi, who is a mother of two, has always found time for volunteering and offering women and girls interested in STEM the opportunity to unleash their potential. She displayed great commitment to giving back to society and sharing her knowledge and expertise with Moroccan youth.
Khouimi has been a volunteer member of Rabat-based children’s charity Sourire d’Espoir since 2007. She also volunteers as a mentor at eSTEM (Environmental Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics), a Moroccan non-profit organization that aims to encourage girls to pursue careers in fields of science and technology.
The 48-year-old Moroccan woman also volunteers at TechWomen as an Emerging Leader. Launched by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, the TechWomen initiative seeks to “empower, connect and support the next generation of women leaders in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) from Africa, Central, and South Asia, and the Middle East.”

Known for her energetic and fun spirit, Khoumi is an extremely athletic person. She is a former basketball player who played for Rabat’s Fath Union Sport (FUS) and Casablanca’s Wydad Athletic Club (WAC). The multi-talented Moroccan woman is also a marathon runner and a practitioner of Yoga.
Khouimi’s life motto is to “dream, work hard with a positive attitude, share and network for success, help others and spread happiness.”
