Rabat – Morocco’s national football team’s coach, Walid Regragui, and the Minister of Sport, Chakib Benmoussa, are traveling to Algeria to attend the Moroccan team’s match against Senegal in the final of the U17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
According to a news report from Moroccan news outlet Le360, Regragui and Benmoussa are set to attend today’s game at Nelson Mandela’s stadium in Algiers.
Morocco’s U17 team made history this year, and for the first time reached the final stage of the prestigious African tournament.
The team landed their spot in the AFCON final after defeating Mali 6-5 in penalties on Sunday. Prior to the game against Mali, the team won against their Algerian counterparts 3-0 in the quarter-finals a week earlier in Constantine.
Morocco showcased their strength in the group stage, topping Group B after securing two consecutive wins against Nigeria (1-0) and South Africa (2-0), with their only loss coming from Zambia.
The quarter-finals displayed the team’s exceptional skill and unwavering determination as they completely dominated their Algerian opponents throughout the match. Morocco’s victory was sealed by the outstanding performance of young striker Zakaria Ouazane, who scored two goals.
With their remarkable achievements thus far, Morocco’s talented young players are eager to maintain their winning momentum and win Moroccan football its first-ever major trophy in the U17 category.
