Rabat – OCP Foundation has issued its annual report, outlining the key achievements as well as local and regional activities as part of its commitment to sustainable human development.

Recalling its commitment to positive social impact, the report emphasized the foundation’s emphasis on collective action that serves economic and social development.

“By engaging in constructive dialogue, we work to build trust and understanding, which leads to stronger relationships, greater accountability and a sense of shared ownership by our internal and external Ecosystem,” says the overview of the OCP Foundation’ report.

The report also stressed the foundation strategy, highlighting its work to promote and boost consultation to tackle both national and international challenges.

Noting key developments achieved in 2022, the foundation emphasized that last year was a “new year of mobilization of all its teams” both in Morocco and beyond.

Such an achievement helped the foundation support its communities in all sectors, particularly innovation, research and development, as well as an action against climate threats.

“The Foundation thus contributes to the strengthening of an ever more inclusive and innovative social dynamic,” the report stressed.

The Foundation reiterated its commitment to building on all of OCP Group’s initiatives to sustainable development in Morocco, as well as the group’s social impact activities outside of Morocco within the South-South cooperation.

OCP Foundation’s social impact in numbers

The OCP Foundation has initiated and supported over 800 projects since 2012, benefiting 500,000 beneficiaries, the report detailed, adding that the foundation keeps an annual roadmap outlining all of its activities benefiting communities across the world – particularly in Africa.

Regarding its social change and impact-driven initiatives, OCP Foundation listed the organization of a training forum for the benefit of 60 people and 32 trainers in Madagascar.

The training sessions and workshops revolved around agriculture, innovation in agriculture, as well as the management of natural resources as a key aspect.

Other OCP initiatives listed in the report put an emphasis on the company’s commitment to supporting locals’ socio-economic empowerment by financing or accompanying their projects. Last year in February, the foundation selected 230 Moroccan cooperatives to support their newly created businesses.

The long list of the foundation activities also covers the selection of 13 projects under the Ecosystem Technology Transfer fund as well as the launch of a campaign to identify the 100 startups benefiting from the support offer from the Moroccan Retail Tech Builder.

Meanwhile, the report also mentions key figures the foundation achieved in 2022, stressing that it carried out 200 social impact projects last year alone.

About 190 of the projects received support from the foundation within the framework of
12 funds in partnership with institutions within Morocco and the whole continent.

The foundation also accompanied 600 newly created Moroccan cooperatives, providing them with the support they needed for more growth.

The report also funded scholarships, which reached 3,323 funded through the Ibn Rochd Foundation for Science and Innovation (FIRSI), in eight African countries.

Innovation, research and development are key

Many recent reports have stressed the importance of research and development as a  key driver of economic development as it spurs invention and structural change.

OCP Foundation’s report backs such an appeal, describing research and development as well as social innovation as “essential levers for achieving structural change” and for creating advanced communities.

The foundation emphasized that its objective is to empower researchers to advance their research agendas as well as expand opportunities or collaboration.

The foundation recalled its collaboration with institutions like the Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P), which has had a similar objective to “inject new energy” into research and development, not only in Morocco but also across Africa.

“Our primary goals are to empower researchers to advance their research agendas, while expanding opportunities for collaboration and advancing the nation’s priorities,” the report stressed.
