Rabat – Morocco’s national cycling team won the gold medal in the Team Time Trial (TTT) race on Sunday in the Algerian town of Tipaza, closing in style the 15th Arab Sports Games taking place from July 5 to 15.

The 58.5-kilometer closed-circuit TTT was completed by the Moroccan national cycling team in 1 hour, 17 minutes, and 59 seconds, representing an average pace of 45.23 kilometers per hour.

The Algerian team came second with a time record of 1 hour 20 minutes 8 seconds.

The Emirati finished third with 1 hour 28 minutes 9 seconds, while the Saudi team finished fourth with 1 hour 30 minutes 46 seconds.

The victorious Moroccan team was made up of riders Achraf Ed Doghmy, ranked fourth in the Africa Tour championship; Mohcine El Kouraji, recent winner of the Tour of Cameroon; Adil El Arbaoui, reigning Moroccan Individual Time Trial champion; and Oussama Khafi, ranked second in the last Tour of Faso race in Burkina Faso.

The teams participating in this 15th Arab Sports Games are Algeria, the hosting country, Morocco, Bahrain, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Syria, Tunisia, and Kuwait.

For the Kawkab Athletic Club of Marrakech’s Achraf Ed Doghmy, this latest individual performance comes mere weeks after he won, for the second year in a row, the national road race championship held from June 23 to 25 in Ifrane.

In a round-trip time of 4 hours 11 minutes 29 seconds, Ed Doghmy won the Moroccan road race after traveling 169 kilometers between the Moroccan cities of Ifrane, El Hajeb, and Azrou.
